Privacy Policy for BookScout

Overview

BookScout ("the App") is a free Android application developed by Muhammad Hasan Khan. This privacy policy explains how the App handles your information.

Data Collection and Storage

BookScout does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data.

All data you save in the App — including your wishlist and scan history — is stored exclusively on your device using a local database. No personal data is sent to any server or third party.

Camera Permission

The App uses your device's camera solely to scan book barcodes and covers. Camera input is processed on-device using ML Kit and is never recorded, stored as images, or transmitted anywhere.

Network Requests

When you scan a book, the App sends the ISBN or title to the following public APIs to retrieve book information:

• Open Library (openlibrary.org) — book metadata, ratings, and author info
• Google Books (googleapis.com) — supplementary book details and cover images

These requests contain only the book identifier (ISBN or title). No personal information, device identifiers, or location data is included in these requests.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• No account registration required
• No analytics or tracking
• No advertising identifiers
• No location data
• No personal data shared with third parties
• No photos or images stored or transmitted

Data Deletion

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you can delete all App data at any time by:

• Clearing the App's data in Android Settings, or
• Uninstalling the App

Children's Privacy

This App is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
